The driveway of a pleasant town in the Netherlands was in desperate need of a make-over. The dull, dreary Chinese bluestone was fast becoming an undesirable feature of this Bleiswijk residence. Even more alarming, the porous surface had no protection against water ingress and oil stains. INTENSIFIA™ was chosen to revitalise this driveway whilst providing premium water and oil repellency. To read the full case study .

Our case study page is one of the most visited on our website. Every case study we publish is permanently located there. If you would like to promote your company with a job that you have recently completed using a product from the Dry-Treat range, email with your name and phone number. Please put 'case study' in the subject line. Include a description of the project with some great quality images.

How To Make An Acropolis

source: Callan Bentley

The Acropolis is the word famous hilltop located in Athens, Greece. The mound is home to some of history's most important monuments. With real estate that includes the Parthenon, Temple of Athena and the Erechtheion it's no wonder why ancient Greece has had such an impact on modern architecture.  A consequence of these awe inspiring structures is how little attention is paid to the geological masterpiece beneath. The Acropolis is made up of limestone, sandstone and marl, taking millions of years to form. What's really interesting is that the upper layer of limestone is actually older than the sandstone and marl found at the bottom of the Acropolis. describes the process in much more depth but for the short and sweet version:
  1. Deposit limestone in the late Cretaceous.
  2. 30 million years later, deposit sandstone and marl.
  3. In the Eocene, shove the limestone up and over the younger strata, shattering the bottom of the limestone in the process.
  4. Break up the fault with some small-offset normal faults.
  5. Differentially erode the landscape.
  6. Add people, who:
    a. Build the Parthenon, and
    b. Misname the sandstone and marl as “schist.”
